SPLAT:
Spatial Planning and Analysis Tool
Nipa Parikh
NOS/Special Projects
The Spatial Planning and Analysis Tool (SPLAT) directly addresses
data acquisition problems for coastal management issues with
a geo-spatial dimension. It seeks to capitalize on several rapidly
evolving areas of web technology to build a tool to allow people
to work remotely with state and local scientists and managers
to evaluate and collect site-specific information on a range
of coastal resource management issues. Splat is based on an
internet delivered ArcIMS map service with several enhancements
to make the software more interactive. One enhancement to the
ability of participants to send a map submission over the internet
and have that layer automatically available to other users.
Other enhancements include the ability to do geoprocessing (e.g.,
dissolve, union, intersect) over the internet.
