The information on point and non-point sources of pollution
is important to attain the water quality conditions necessary
to support human health and living resources in the study area.
Despite many existing programs and efforts, activities such
as sewage and solid waste disposal, inadequate treatment of
industrial wastewater, nutrient run-off, contamination by heavy
metals and persistent organic pollutants, and destruction and
physical alteration of habitats remain to be addressed within
the Bight of the Californias and require binational collaboration.
The outcome of this collaboration is to provide a powerful tool
for organizing information regarding land-based sources of marine
pollution. A regional perspective is a necessary input to the
decision-making process; not only to assess the overall regional
condition, but also to help place conditions at local sites
into a larger comparative perspective.
The goal of this web page is to improve access, delivery, integration,
and assessment of key geo-referenced environmental data and
information relevant to coastal resource impact issues in the
Bight of the Californias region. Specifically this web site
provides: A set of web-based data analyis and display tools
for the regional point source inventory and other databases
Point Source data retrieval (facility profile) Mapping capabilities
Comparative and trend analysis, and Visualization capabilities
for users with different levels of data and analysis needs (ArcIMS).
