PHP and MySQL: Data driven Web pages made easy
Eugene F Burger

Web
pages with some dynamic components are becoming the norm. Dynamic
content in web pages can vary from writing the date to the page,
to complex data tables or graphics created from data requested,
or possibly sourced, from multiple databases.
MySQL is an Open Source database management server, which has
become very popular for use for lightweight applications. PHP
is a server side application server, which provides functionality
for providing dynamic web content. PHP also has its own cross-platform,
HTML, embedded scripting language. Both MySQL and PHP are Open
Source tools, and are therefore freely available to any developer
wanting the create data driven dynamic web pages. Both have
very large user communities.
In this tutorial I will list the features of PHP and MySQL and
also discuss the installation and functionality of each. The
tutorial will have some code samples from a simple dynamic web
application. Since users have a large number of choices of similar
applications, considerations for application server and database
choice will be explained.
